The Barzakh realm is an intermediate stage between this world and the Hereafter. From the moment a soul departs from its body, it enters this realm until the Day of Judgment arrives. In Barzakh, a person begins to experience the first consequences of their deeds—whether blessings or torment in the grave.
Allah says:
"If you could see when the angels take the souls of the disbelievers, striking their faces and their backs, (saying), 'Taste the punishment of the burning Fire.'"
(QS. Al-Anfal: 50)
